When my kids started at Lafayette, we were quite overwhelmed with the size of the school. Now, going on our fifth year there, we’ve met so many incredible people that it feels like home. I was fortunate to be asked to serve as the co-chair of the Belonging Committee of the Lafayette Elementary Home and School Association. We've created meaningful opportunities for our children to experience the diversity of DC—from cheering on women's sports at Georgetown basketball games to exploring our nation's history at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. We have also fostered conversations among parents about racial equity, visible and invisible disabilities, and community inclusion through book and film discussions and other learning opportunities. As a lover of reading, I also co-chair the Lafayette Book Fair Committee, where I get to work with passionate teachers and parents to help every child discover a story that makes them feel seen (and raise important funds for the library). 

 

Being a wife and mom (and a dog mom!) continually remind me of the importance of patience, perspective, kindness, and showing up for the people who matter most.
